History of Greenwood

Greenwood is a popular suburb located on the south side of the Indianapolis Metropolitan area in Johnson County. In 1823 the first home was built where the Greenwood Park Mall currently sits (Story Map Tour). According to Census in 2010, there are 49,791 people, 19,615 households, and 12,845 families living in Greenwood (United States Census Bureau).

A few of their main attractions are the Greenwood Park Mall, Oaken Barrel Brewing Company, and nine beautiful parks including Craig and Freedom park. The city has three public school systems and an airport called the Indy South Greenwood Airport (Greenwood.in.gov).

Greenwood offers fun-filled events all year long. They have a Freedom Festival every June at the Craig Park with hot dogs, fireworks, a parade, and more. Other holiday events like Breakfast with Santa and the Monster Mash and other kid friendly events like Touch a Truck and Mud Day are other examples of things to do in the city!
